Barb has worked with Border Collies since 1974. She and her husband, Bernie, have bred, trained and competed with their Border Collies since 1990.
Barb has been instructing since the early 1990's. She has worked with most herding breeds. Her specialty is Border Collies, but she does have an understanding of each breed's style and method of working stock. She limits her instruction to gathering breeds as she has no training in the tending style of work.
Lessons are $40 for two sessions on the sheep. The dog is worked once, then rested, then worked a second time on the stock. The lessons are not based on a time frame, but rather on how long the dog can physcially and mentally work and learn. The average time on the sheep is 10 to 15 minutes each sesson.
Requirements are a flat buckle collar. It is a plus, but not necessary, the dog know sit, down, stay and recall. Most times those commands go out the window once the dog sees the sheep! The owner should come prepared to work in conditions from dry ground to mud. A good set of shoes/boots is a must. the farm is at a high elevation, so be prepared for it to be much cooler than where you are from.
